If you visit Google on Saturday, September 4th, or visit a Google property where it is already September 4th such as Google new Zealand, you will see a special Google logo. the logo is of a buckyball or fullerence, which is any molecule composed entirely of carbon, in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, or tube.

The neat part is that you can click on the buckyball and spin it with your mouse. Here is a picture and a video demonstrated it:

This is not the first animated Google logo. Google had animated / interactive logos for Issac Newton, Pacman and many others.

Is teleportation of an object larger than a bucky ball possible?

If you had four chambers.
Each would have lenses that used extreme differences in temperature and electromagnetism o bend space time around an object. the first chamber would be located in orbit around earth. the fourth around mars . the second and third would be outside the solar system, so that the acceleration of the objects being teleported could be changed.

To keep it dumb:

It will be eventually possible, but maybe not by the same method you mentioned….

MSNBC taps former Democratic aide Lawrence O’Donnell to host new prime-time show

Lawrence O’Donnell, whose career has taken him from the halls of the U.S. Senate to the writing room of a top entertainment show, is now getting his own prime-time show on MSNBC.

The cable news network announced Tuesday that O’Donnell, a longtime political analyst for MSNBC who has been a regular substitute for Keith Olbermann, will helm a show that will air weeknights at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET, replacing the repeat of Olbermann’s nightly program.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin said O’Donnell fits perfectly with the rest of the network’s lineup, calling him “smart, progressive and based in fact.”

The move gives MSNBC a solid block of left-leaning hosts in prime time.

Griffin said he concluded O’Donnell was the right pick for the time slot after seeing that he was able to hold much of Olbermann’s viewership when he filled in for him during the last year. “He’s proven to connect with our audience,” Griffin said.

O’Donnell served as a top advisor to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-N.Y.) and chief of staff of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. he then moved into television, working as a writer and executive producer on “West Wing,” for which he won an Emmy. He’s also had stints as an actor, most recently portraying an attorney on the HBO show “Big Love.”

“Between politics and pop culture, there’s probably no better person,” Griffin said.

When O’Donnell’s new show premieres, which is expected to be sometime in the next few months, MSNBC will move repeats of “Countdown” and “The Rachel Maddow Show” back one hour so they will air at the same time on the West Coast as they do in the East.

MSNBC executives have contemplated launching a new show in the 10 p.m. hour for some time. last year, fans of liberal radio host Cenk Uygur of the Internet show "The Young Turks" and Sam Seder of Air America lobbied executives to select one of the two men for the time slot, urging the network to bring on another host with the liberal leanings of Olbermann and Maddow.

At the time, Griffin said he wasn’t necessarily looking for a host with similar ideology. “I want that hour to be edgy, to be smart, to be a little snarky,” he said.

On Tuesday, Griffin said he hadn’t given himself any particular deadline to create a 10 p.m. show. “I’ve been looking for years. The opportunity came up because Lawrence was ready and we’re ready, honestly.”

MySpace Simplifies Privacy Settings

Social networking pioneer MySpace is back in the news today after announcing the first changes to its Privacy Policy settings in two years.

The privacy changes come as MySpace is also in the national news once again in the case of a missing California teenager who authorities worry may have disappeared to meet a man she met through the site.

In a brief, personalized email sent to each of its estimated 122 million members, the company said it had “made some changes to our privacy settings to make them simpler than ever.”

MySpace says the new settings will allow users to choose one privacy setting for their entire profile instead of having individual privacy settings for each of their profile, photos, friends, stream and comments.

MySpace was the most popular social networking site in the United States as recently as 2006, but saw its growth quickly eclipsed as competitors like Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare entered the market.  Each of those companies has been forced to address their own privacy settings in recent years as users continue to raise concerns about the data collection and release tactics of the social networking sites they frequent.

As part of MySpace’s new privacy settings, user profiles are now also automatically set to be viewed by ‘anyone and everyone’ for users 18 and over but, according to the company, ‘if any of your previous settings were set to only my friends, your entire profile is not set to only my friends.’  the default setting for new users under 18 makes their Profile Content available only to people who are on their friends list.

Personalized items such as photo albums, videos, blogs, events and playlists will operate under an “individual privacy setting” to allow users to choose privacy settings per item when the content is uploaded, and to modify the settings at any time.

The new settings also clarify that a user’s basic profile information consists of the user’s profile picture, numerical friend ID, optional vanity URL, location, gender and age, display name and real name, if desired.

MySpace reassured users the company does, “understand the importance of privacy and allowing you to control your information…we just want you to be ‘in the know’ about what the privacy settings are, how to use them and how they affect the types of information you share.”

Clijsters, Venus roll into U.S. Open fourth round

Flushing Meadows, NY (Sports Network) – Defending champion Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams took easy third-round wins Friday at the U.S. Open.

The second-seeded Clijsters dropped the first three games of her match against 27th-seeded Czech Petra Kvitova, but wound up taking the final 12 to complete a 6-3, 6-0 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Belgian, who has won 17 straight matches at Flushing Meadows, will face Serbian Ana Ivanovic in the fourth round in a battle of former world No. 1s.

Ivanovic beat Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano 7-5, 6-0, to continue her resurgence. The former French Open champion had not reached the fourth round at the U.S. Open since 2007, bowing out in the first round last year, and had not advanced beyond the second round at any of the three prior Grand Slam events this season.

Clijsters has had more success at the U.S. Open than Ivanovic, winning the title in 2005 and 2009. She is aiming to become the first woman to successfully defend her U.S. Open crown since Williams in 2001.

Williams, the No. 3 seed, is looking to win her third Open title and took another step through the bracket with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella.

Williams used powerful groundstrokes to dominate rallies, and though she committed 30 unforced errors, still took the win in a little more than an hour.

Williams’ fourth-round opponent will be 16th-seeded Israeli Shahar Peer, who advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over 19th-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta.

Sixth-seeded French Open champ Italian Francesca Schiavone moved on with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over the Ukraine’s Alona Bondarenko, the 29th seed. Schiavone will next face 20th-seeded Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova after she handled Argentine Gisela Dulko 6-1, 6-2.

Earlier winners Friday included Samantha Stosur of Australia and Russia’s Elena Dementieva.

The fifth-seeded Stosur thumped Italy’s Sara Errani, 6-2, 6-3, while the 12th- seeded Dementieva was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova. Stosur and Dementieva will meet in the fourth round.

Mr. Collins,My son is an exchange student at the Catholic University of Chilein Valparaiso. I have e-mailed him your article to share with histeachers and fellow students. they will be gratified to know thatwe join them in their concern.Thank you.

reply to this

In this world of selfishness and spoiled behavior, there but forthe grace of God go I indeed.

It would be wonderful if some citizens would gather at the minearea every single day until the men are rescued and pray for them, sing uplifting spiritual music, pipe down Joel Osteen’s weekly 30minute televised message. All of these things would go a long wayto lifting up their spirits. Also sing patriotic music, readstories…

I will be praying for them. God Bless Them.

reply to this

Stories like these always strike a nerve with me. I come from afamily with four generations of Kentucky coal miners. While thegreenies and their ilk vilify such brave men, they keep the lightson across this country and do honest, hard labor to feed theirfamilies. I now live in central West Virginia, an hour away fromboth the Upper big Branch and Sago disasters. God Bless Coal Minerswhere ever they are and may these men be brought home safe, soundand soon.

reply to this

There is a camp outside the mine – populated mainly by families, friends and rescue workers. it is called “Esperanza”, meaning”hope”. The story occupies half of the news programs each morningand night. The miners are not forgotten. there is a nationalpriority to get them out. there are expert teams from the U.S. andAustralia that were called in to assist. The subject is oneverybody´s mind.there is also a small scandal brewing that an official of theConcertación (Leftist, socialist) government at the time thatpermitted this formerly closed mine to begin work again, by-passingthe normal procedures. We´ll hear more of that once the miners arerescued.DaneConcón, Chile

reply to this

We are so very sorry for what these men are having to endure. Not only must they endure the unthinkable for these many weeks;when they return to the surface, they will be changed.

DH and I pray daily for them, their families and those trying tohelp them.

reply to this

To say they are “ensconced” in a 20 by 30 foot room, half ofwhich is lavatory, is a willful misrepresentation to make yourarticle more dramatic. You cannot be unaware that they have accessto a half-mile of tunnels connecting them to other rooms that theyalso use.

reply to this

Thank you for clarifying that. I was thrown by the narrowdescription in this article and wondered if “the facts had changed”because I had heard the other day about the extended tunnels theyhave access to. I am so thoroughly SICK of innaccurate news, whether it’s incompetence or deliberate deception. Whateverhappened to the high school journalism rule-of-thumb of “who, what, why, where, when….” Anyway, thanks, B. Patton.

reply to this

” Why can not a faster rescue be assured?”

Have you even considered the fact that the effects of thatescape tunnel on the unstable area where the miners are trapped hasto be extensively monitored and the pace of excavation carefullycontrolled in order to prevent the remaining mine, the part the menare trapped in, from collapsing completely? I mean, really, whatgood would it do to speed up the excavation if that very processcaused the unstable rock strata to further collapse and kill thetrapped miners?

reply to this

Apparently my noting the validity of something pointed out by B.Patton was offensive to you. I’m not sure why. Nothing about BP’scomment or my response to it suggested that their situation wasmade easier. As I indicated in my first post, my husband and I arepraying daily, literally, for these men, their families and thosewho are trying to help them. I do not care to change places withthem. they have already endured far more than I would be able totolerate for even 45 minutes. As I said, I am very, very sorry forwhat they are having to endure.

reply to this

This is all Bush’s fault. His willfull ignoring and lack ofaction of this crisis is appalling and a foretelling of what willhappen after the Republicans steal back power.

reply to this

I am really sorry about those poor miners, I hope they can bepulled out as soon as possible, it’s terrible to think they willprobably spend another four months down there.

By STEPHEN HAWKINSAP Sports Writer

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao dismissed a derogatory online video posted by Floyd Mayweather Jr., calling it an “uneducated message” and choosing to instead focus on his upcoming fight with Antonio Margarito.

In the widely circulated video, Mayweather goes on an expletive-filled and sometimes racist rant against Pacquiao, the newly elected Congressman from the Philippines who faces Margarito on Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium near Dallas.

Mayweather said during the video, which appeared this week, that he's on vacation “for about a year” and would easily defeat Pacquiao after that.

“I just heard about that, but I didn't see the video,” Pacquiao said Friday, at the final stop of a three-city tour to promote his fight. “But it's an uneducated message.”

Mayweather, at times interacting with fans by phone on the video, claims Pacquiao “can't speak no English” and has “never seen a contract he didn't like.” there are also suggestions that the Filipino sensation has used performance-enhancing drugs, assertions raised previously by the Mayweather camp that resulted in a defamation lawsuit that is still pending.

“It's a really cheap low blow, but again, consider where it came from,” said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer. “We tried to fight him. he said no. he doesn't want to fight.”

Roach said he hadn't seen the Mayweather video.

Mayweather's chief adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, did not return messages left by The Associated Press. His publicist, Kelly Swanson, said in an e-mail that she had seen the video but had not been in touch with Mayweather or Ellerbe and couldn't comment.

Fans have been calling for Mayweather to fight Pacquiao, but negotiations have repeatedly broken down for what could have been the richest fight in boxing history.

When a deal wasn't reached in January, Pacquiao instead fought Joshua Clottey, defeating him in March at Cowboys Stadium. when negotiations broke down again this summer, Pacquiao turned his attention to Margarito, whom he'll fight for a vacant junior middleweight title.

It is unclear when the Mayweather video was made, but it appeared online this week when Pacquiao and Margarito were in the midst of their promotional tour. after stops in Beverly Hills and new York, the media tour wrapped up Friday at Cowboys Stadium – in an end zone plaza instead of on the field, which was being prepared for a college football game.

When asked about the possibility of a Mayweather bout Friday, Pacquiao responded: “I'm not looking for that fight. I'm satisfied with what I've done in boxing already.”

Pacquiao said he's only planning a couple of more fights before retiring, though he gave no indication of who the opponents might be. The seven-division champion said earlier this week that he would still face Mayweather if he accepted the fight.

Todd duBoef of promoter Top Rank said he had heard about the Mayweather video but “probably” didn't have any interest in seeing it. Mayweather used to be a Top Rank fighter.

DuBoef also said he doesn't want to hear Mayweather asking to fight Pacquiao, especially after his team denied that the second round of negotiations even took place this summer.

“It's sad,” duBoef said. “You hope that people are a little more mature than things like that. … We've tried this twice (to make the fight). We tried it twice and you denied there were negotiations. Enough of that.”

DuBoef said that Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs) was ready to fight and not interested in waiting any longer on a bout with Mayweather, who is 41-0 after a unanimous decision in May over Shane Mosley. Mayweather took that fight after the Pacquiao deal fell through.

That was Mosley's first fight since beating Margarito in January 2009, and the last time that Margarito fought in the United States. he was suspended for one year because a plaster-like substance was found in Margarito's hand wraps before his bout against Mosley in Los Angeles.

Margarito (38-6, 27 KOs) was denied an application to fight in California and had another application tabled in Nevada before the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation last week approved his application. That cleared the way for another high-profile boxing match at Cowboys Stadium, the $1.2 billion showplace built by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

When Texas licensing executive director William Kuntz spoke Friday, he said Jones paved the way for major boxing events in Texas. while he didn't address Margarito's license issue, duBoef applauded the decision by Texas regulators.

“They did a terrific job. They did research, they didn't rush to judgment,” duBoef said. “They didn't listen to hype, they didn't listen to hyperbole.”

Toshiba recalls Satellite T130, T135 due to fire risks

Toshiba, together with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, have issued a voluntary recall of its T130 and T135 13.3-inch notebook PCs due to a possible risk of fire. The exact products that are potentially affected include the Satellite T135, Satellite T135D and Satellite Pro T130 notebooks. about 41,000 examples sold worldwide are covered under the recall.

The hazard involves a potential overheating at the notebook’s AC adapter power plug. Toshiba has collected 129 reports of the notebooks overheating and deforming the plastic around the power plug. two of these included minor burn injuries that didn’t require medical help, but two other reports involved minor property damage.

Owners of the affected model can check if their device is affected by downloading a new BIOS update. The software will check if the notebook is overheating and disable the external power port, while displaying a message to bring the notebook to Toshiba for a free repair.
